This grant would renovate our girls softball and Buddy Ball field and make the field, restrooms, sidewalks completely accessible and add paving to the roadway through the park for better accessibility. Since 2014, Winfield Park and Rec has been on a mission to make all areas of the park 100% accessible. We have added new accessible bleachers, bleacher pads and restrooms with adult changing tables. We have also added an adaptive athletics program so that all children have an equal opportunity to play organized sports in the park.
Partnering with the Winfield City High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball teams, Buddy Ball Baseball was our first program in the spring of 2023. We then added Adaptive basketball in the winter of 2023. It has been such an amazing opportunity to witness the joy and happiness on the faces of the children who participated in these programs. Glory Baptist Church of Winfield and Mosaic United Methodist Church of Winfield brought their congregations to the park and filled the bleachers and gyms during games to support these players.
